Mountain WFC, a youth soccer club affiliated with the Vancouver Whitecaps and the North Shore Soccer Development Centre, scored two big accomplishments in the past month.
Early in November the club was ranked No. 2 overall in North America by the United Soccer League in recognition of outstanding performance on the field as well as administrative proficiency and compliance to league standards off it. The club, in only its second year of existence, earned the No. 2 ranking over more than 100 of the top clubs in North America.
At the end of November the club continued to prove its quality with the WFC under-16 boys team defeating New Jersey's TSF Academy 2-0 to win the 2008 USL Super Y-League North American championships in Tampa, Fla. The Super Y-League North American Finals, regarded as the top youth soccer event in North America, is a five-day tournament that includes more than 130 of the best youth soccer teams in the United States and Canada.
North Shore players on the championship-winning under-16 team included Julian Cantarutti, Blake van Blerk, Skyler Causey, Matteo Agnoloni and Martin Eston.
Mountain WFC's teams play in the USL's Pacific Northwest Division and six of the club's eight teams qualified for the North American Finals with their strong play during the regular season.
