Murphy to lead 'Caps Pro Development

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announce that Chris Murphy has been appointed as managing director of the Whitecaps Professional Development Program.

Murphy, who joined the Whitecaps in October as a development manager focusing on the Whitecaps and BCSA Super Y-League partnership, will see his role expanded to include management of the new Whitecaps Professional Development Program in the Whitecaps FC Club Model.

"Chris has made some significant progress on both the Super Y-League initiatives and our community outreach since joining the Whitecaps in October,” said Whitecaps director of youth Dan Lenarduzzi. "This position reflects the Whitecaps desire to continue to build our partnerships and programs with many of the clubs and associations in British Columbia and with BC Soccer.”

As managing director of Professional Development, Murphy will bridge the Whitecaps Community Soccer System and Whitecaps Professional structure by leading all professional development initiatives - including regional programs, Prospects and Residency - as part of the Whitecaps development model.

The Whitecaps Club Model provides a player development pathway from grassroots to the professional level. The Community Soccer System is the foundation of the model that helps grow the game and provide free access through a combination of free community, school and pre-game clinics. The Whitecaps Professional Development Program includes a progression of regional development programs, including camps, academies, showcases, and Super Y-League opportunities that feed into Whitecaps Prospects. Whitecaps Professional teams are the pinnacle of the Club Model. They include Whitecaps Residency and the Whitecaps men’s and women’s teams.
