Toronto FC to play host to opening two games of Nutrilite Championship - The Canadian Press

MONTREAL — Toronto FC will host the opening two matches of the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship.

The schedule for the three-team event announced on Tuesday has Toronto at home against the Vancouver Whitecaps on May 6 and the Montreal Impact visiting May 13.

The Whitecaps travel to Montreal on May 20 and then play host to the Impact on May 27. Toronto visits Vancouver on June 2 and the event winds up with Toronto at Montreal on June 17.

The winner gets the Voyageurs Cup and becomes the lone Canadian entry in the 2009-2010 CONCACAF Champions League.

The event that started last summer has grown in stature as Montreal won the Voyageurs Cup and then got to the Champions league quarter-finals, where they face Santos Laguna of Mexico in the first leg on Wednesday night before an expected crowd of more than 50,000 at Olympic Stadium.

The Canadian Soccer Association also announced that Nutrilite has extended its title sponsorship for three years, or through the 2011 season.
