Two late goals by Charles Gbeke secured three valuable points for the Vancouver Whitecaps at Swangard Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Whitecaps moved six points clear of Miami FC Blues for the final playoff spot in the United Soccer Leagues First Division standings with a 2-0 victory over their South Florida rivals.
Though they remain in seventh place, Sunday's win improves the Whitecaps record to 8-9-7. Miami, meanwhile, remains out the playoff picture in eighth place with a record of 7-12-4, although the Blues do hold a match in hand.
Vancouver came into the matchup winless in its last seven games.
The team will have a week to prepare for their next league encounter, a home date with the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday night.
