Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that men’s team assistant coach Todd Wawrousek, who just completed his final year on his contract, will not return for the 2010 season.
“We are thankful to Todd for his service and dedication to the club,” said Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi. “Todd was a constant professional throughout his three-year tenure with the men’s team and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Prior to joining the Whitecaps in February 2007, Wawrousek was the head coach of the Gettysburg College women’s team between 1990 and 2006, as well as the assistant coach with the now defunct United Soccer Leagues First Division club Hershey Wildcats between 1997 and 2001.
Statement from Todd Wawrousek:
I have been fortunate to serve as assistant coach of the men’s program since 2007; teams that I hope have represented Whitecaps Football Club with distinction and pride.
It seems an appropriate and opportune moment for the club to recruit new coaching staff members as part of the initiative to prepare for competition in Major League Soccer in 2011. There will be, no doubt, many talented individuals interested in joining the team at this exceptional place.
May I extend my gratitude for the opportunity to be employed with the Whitecaps during a remarkable period in my coaching career. My position has afforded me a great wealth of experience, knowledge, and the ability to guide talent through the challenges and joys of the game and life.
It has been a privilege to work with, and for, so many great staff, players, and fans who have contributed their collective initiative and commitment to the success of our team. A special thanks to the Whitecaps ownership group who make it all possible, and to my coaching colleagues Teitur Thordarson and Mike Salmon, with whom it has been a privilege to serve. I am very proud of our accomplishments, all of which have been very gratifying.
I extend my best wishes for continued success and hope that my contribution serves as a positive model for others to follow. Thank you for all the courtesies you extended to me and my family, and for the opportunity of a rewarding period of employment.
