Whitecaps seek revenge against Montreal tonight - Metro

The Vancouver Whitecaps will be looking for revenge tonight as they take on the team that spoiled their chance at last year’s Canadian championship.

The ‘Caps take on the USL-champion Montreal Impact at Swangard Stadium in the second match of the 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship. The kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet.

Last year, the Whitecaps were poised to win the three-team round robin tournament, but were foiled by their USL rivals in the final match.

A goal differential of less than four would have won the Voyageurs Cup for the Whitecaps.

The Impact, who had won the Voyageurs Cup a year earlier to win a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League, rested some of its best players and was walloped by Toronto FC 6-1.

To rub a little more salt into the wound, the Impact went on to beat the Whitecaps for the USL championship.

The Nutrilite Championship runs six consecutive Wednesdays. Last week, home team Toronto FC beat the Impact 2-0.
