Vancouver's Greenest Pitch: Whitecaps FC

Hello and welcome to one of my addictions that I'm actually proud of (and that doesn't destroy me in any sort of way). I am a huge fan of the game of football (soccer, whatever term you like), and my team is Vancouver Whitecaps FC who currently play in USSF D-2. This will be their last year as a division 2 team as they will move to North America's top flight league, MLS, next season in 2011.

I hope to chronicle some of that movement here in Vancouver's Greenest Pitch, along with the general football environment of the region. We have a proud history of football in this city going all the way back to the Whitecaps 1979 Championship season in the NASL, to their recent Division 2 league championships in 2006 and 2008.

My personal involvement with Whitecaps FC has been quite varied; casual fan, hardcore fan, match employee, friend of a few fine people in head office, season ticket holder, to now an ordinary follower. On June 10th I accompanied some members of Whitecaps Head Office and about 60 or so fans on a trip to Seattle. This was all arranged by the club, and was their way of getting some Whitecaps fans down to Seattle to say hello to our old rivals while sporting our new logo which was just unveiled June 8th.
