Caps use late magic to bounce Impact - Vancouver Sun

Bellisomo scores injury time goal to give Vancouver just its second win at Saputo Stadium

For the first time in four tries this season, the Vancouver Whitecaps earned a win over the Montreal Impact and all it took was a spectacular goal in injury time.

Luca Bellisomo volleyed a Martin Nash cross for a goal in injury time as the Whitecaps stunned the Impact 2-1 at Montreal's Saputo Stadium on Wednesday. Greg Janicki got the Caps on the board in the 66th minute.

The match was a tale of two halves as Montreal dominated the opening session from the get go, with former Whitecap Tony Donatelli nodding home a free kick in just the third minute.

Montreal continued to pour on the pressure in the first half, and the Whitecaps were fortunate to escape to the locker-room down just 1-0.

In the second half, the Whitecaps came out firing. Janicki tied the score after making a tight turn in the penalty area and driving the ball home.

But it took Nash's 100th career point for Vancouver and Bellisomo's solid finish to give the Whitecaps their second road win of their current four-game trip. The Caps have also tallied a pair of draws and have not lost on the road since May 29 in Rochester, N.Y.

With the win the Whitecaps improved their record to six wins, six draws and two losses. The Caps now hold a seven-point lead over Montreal for first place in the NASL conference as the season nears the halfway mark.

It was just the second win at Saputo Stadium for the Whitecaps since the Impact's home ground opened in 2008.

The Whitecaps wrap up their road trip with a Saturday tilt against the Portland Timbers.
