Vancouver Whitecaps complete road trip with scoreless draw - Vancouver Sun

The men's team completed a successful five-game road trip with a scoreless draw in Portland on Saturday.

Vancouver keeper Jay Nolly had a huge game, making seven saves to preserve the tie for a Whitecaps squad that had two wins and three draws during the three-week trip.

After playing a 4-1-4-1 formation in Montreal, Whitecaps head coach Teitur Thordarson reverted back to his more favoured 4-4-2 formation versus the Timbers.

Cornelius Stewart returned to the starting XI after serving a one-match suspension, as he partnered Nizar Khalfan in Vancouver's attack.

Blake Wagner, meanwhile, earned his first competitive start for Vancouver, as he replaced Jonny Steele and played wide on the left-hand side of midfield.

The 6-2-7 Caps remain atop the USSF D-2 NASL Conference and begin a four-game home stand against AC St. Louis on Thursday.
