Prospects in PCSL playoff action

After completing their Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) season with a perfect 16W-0L-0D record, Vancouver Whitecaps FC Prospects Women now set their sights on Coquitlam, BC, and defending the Dave Fryatt Challenge Cup title they won last year.

The Whitecaps cannot help but be pleased with how their 2010 PCSL season has turned out thus far. On top of setting a league record in women's play for most wins, the Prospects have also set league records with the most goals at 87, and greatest goal difference at +77. The only other team to ever post a perfect PCSL Women's Premier Division season was the 2007 Whitecaps Reserves with a record of 14W-0L-0D.

The Prospects semifinal opponent are their traditional rivals Coquitlam Metro-Ford Xtreme. The Xtreme qualified as tournament hosts, and with their record of 5W-10L-1D, they may not seem like tough competition at first glance. However, their record does not tell the whole story, as they have played the Prospects very competitively this year, narrowly losing both matches in the league 1-0 and 2-0. The hosts are a very tough team to play against and boast an especially strong defensive backline. The Prospects can be sure that a very difficult match awaits them in the semis.

All of the tournament matches will be held at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam, BC, this weekend. The Prospects first host the Xtreme in one of two semifinals on Saturday afternoon, with kickoff at Town Centre East set for 2 p.m. PT. Saturday's other semi sees Victoria Highlanders FC take on third-place Fraser Valley Action at 4 p.m. PT. The Dave Fryatt Challenge Cup final is set for Sunday afternoon at Town Centre West at 2:30 p.m. PT.
