Ex - 'Caps earn Canada call-up

CSA & Whitecaps FC
Former Vancouver Whitecaps FC players Marcus Haber and Adam Straith have been called up to the Canadian men's national team for their friendly match in Ukraine.

Both players are part of an 18-player squad that Canadian head coach Stephen Hart has selected for the friendly in Kiev, Ukraine, on Friday, October 8. Haber and Straith will join the predominantly European-based squad for preparations on Sunday.

After being named United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) Rookie of the Year in 2009, Haber made 15 appearances for the 'Caps during a two-month loan spell from English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion FC this season. The Vancouver, BC, native scored two goals and added two assists in the process. Currently on a season-long loan with Scottish Premier League club St. Johnstone, Haber's call-up for the Ukraine match is his first with Canada's senior team.

Centre back Straith returns to the full Canada squad after appearing in last month's home friendlies versus Peru and Honduras. A graduate of the Whitecaps FC Residency program, Straith has made three starts this season for German Bundesliga Two side FC Energie Cottbus.
