Nash earns the Mobilio Golden Boot

Prior to Thursday's playoff match versus Portland Timbers, Vancouver Whitecaps FC captain
Martin Nash
was awarded the Domenic Mobilio Golden Boot award as the team’s top scorer with four goals and eight assists during the 2010 regular season.

The native of Victoria, BC, won the award, even though centre back
Greg Janicki
and winger
Blake Wagner
had also scored four goals in the regular season. The 34-year-old's eight assists proved the decisive tiebreaker between the three Whitecaps FC players.

Currently in his tenth season with the Blue and White, Nash led all Whitecaps FC players with 16 points this season. This included two game-winning goals - the first coming from the penalty spot in a 1-0 home win over FC Tampa Bay on June 6, while the other strike came in a 1-0 away victory over NSC Minnesota Stars on August 14. Nash sits seventh on Whitecaps FC's all-time points list with 31 goals and 48 assists for 110 points in 282 career appearances.

Nash is the fifth recipient of the Golden Boot award. Previous winners of the club’s goalscoring accolade include Jason Jordan (2005), Joey Gjertsen (2006), Eduardo Sebrango (2007 & 2008), and Charles Gbeke (2009). The award recognizes a 'Caps scoring legend in Mobilio. The former Canadian international, who died suddenly in 2004 at the age of 35, was Vancouver's most prolific striker after scoring 170 goals during his 14-year career with the club.
