Goodbye Swangard

October 17, 2010 - On this cold October night, Vancouver Whitecaps FC not only said goodbye to USSF-D2, they also said goodbye to Swangard Stadium forever.

Swangard has been the home of Whitecaps FC for the last 24 years and the club have enjoyed many incredible moments, celebrations, and even a few heartbreaks in the venue. The stadium itself opened on April 26, 1969, but Whitecaps FC did not move in until 1987. Their first match at Swangard was played on June 7, 1987, with a starting XI that included Pat Onstad, Shawn Lowther, Bob Lenarduzzi, Dan Sudeyko, John Hughes, Guido Titotto, Jim Easton, Jamie Lowery, Carl Valentine, Domenic Mobilio, and Ivor Evans. Whitecaps FC have enjoyed an impressive home record of 233W-67L-60D during their time at Swangard, with over 1.7 million fans coming through the turnstiles in nearly a quarter of a century.
