Paul Carson

Vancouver Whitecaps FC are mourning the loss of legendary Vancouver sports broadcaster Paul Carson, who passed away on Tuesday evening after an 11-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 60.

A pioneer of Sports Page TV and Team 1040 sports radio, Carson was an influential figure to his fellow sports broadcasters and journalists in Vancouver, as well as the entire British Columbia sporting community, including Whitecaps FC.

"Since 1977, I enjoyed a rewarding professional relationship with Paul," said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi. "When Sports Page TV went on the air in the late 1970s, Paul and the show provided enhanced coverage of Whitecaps FC and Vancouver 86ers. The profile during those days was invaluable to our club and our ability to promote the sport of soccer. On a personal note, I will always treasure my friendship with Paul. He was a well-loved and well-respected individual in the world of Vancouver media, and will be sorely missed. My condolences go out to his family and friends at this sad time."
