Preseason training starts Monday at Empire Field

This afternoon, Vancouver Whitecaps FC begin eight weeks of important preseason training towards their inaugural season in Major League Soccer, which begins Saturday, March 19, at home to Canadian rivals Toronto FC.


At 1:30 p.m. PT, a squad of around 30 players will take to the pitch at Empire Field in East Vancouver for the team's first training session of 2011. 'Caps head coach Teitur Thordarson and his staff will put his squad of signed and unsigned players, draft picks, and trialists through their paces during the 90-minute session.


Monday's on-field session is expected to include plenty of ball work, as well as some scrimmage action that is likely to be made up of three teams from the large group of players in camp.


The Blue and White will continue to train at Empire Field until Thursday before boarding a plane for Casa Grande, Arizona, on Friday, and the next phase of preseason training at the Grande Sports World complex.
