Whitecaps FC legends reminisce about NASL success

On Wednesday, Vancouver Whitecaps FC look to win their first trophy as an MLS team when they battle Toronto FC in the deciding second leg of the 2011 Nutrilite Canadian Championship (5 p.m. PT, Rogers Sportsnet ONE, sportsnet.ca, TEAM 1410, teamradio.ca). The club's first-ever championship, however, was the 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl.


Two prominent players on that team were current Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi and current club ambassador and staff coach Carl Valentine. Earlier this season, the pair sat down with MLSsoccer.com to talk about the start of professional soccer in Vancouver, beating the big-name New York Cosmos, winning the Soccer Bowl, and Carl's unique fashion sense.






Following Wednesday’s match in Toronto, Whitecaps FC return home to host New York Red Bulls this Saturday, May 28, at Empire Field.Individual match tickets start at $20, plus applicable service charges, and are available at all Ticketmaster Ticket Centres, online at ticketmaster.ca, and Charge-by-Phone at 1.855.6.GO-CAPS(1.855.646.2277).
