Breakfast Television spends the morning with Whitecaps FC

BreakfastTelevision

On Tuesday, June 28, 2011, from 6am to 9am PT, Breakfast Television was on-site at the Whitecaps FC women’s practice at Simon Fraser University.

Live Eye Host and producer of Breakfast Television, Greg Harper, participated in some of the drills going on during training, tested his soccer skills and got some tips from the women’s coaching staff and Whitecaps FC Ambassador, Carl Valentine.

Greg spoke with Hubert Busby Jr., head coach of the women’s team, about the progress the team has made over the course of the season, their standing at the top of the league, and the preparation and training the team faces as they work towards securing a playoff spot.

Carl Valentine spoke with Greg about the school programs and summer camps run by Whitecaps FC, and exchanged some tips – Greg passing on some interview techniques, while Carl showed Greg a thing or two about taking penalty shots.

Lexi Marton and Monica Lam-Feist, two women’s team players, shared their personal thoughts on the season, and what it takes to play at this level.

Greg then spent some time speaking with Richard Grootscholten, technical director and head coach of theWhitecaps FC Residency program. Richard provided details on the Residency Program, the training schedule, as well as the billet families that are required to successfully run the program.  Greg then spoke with Ben Fisk, a Residency team member, who introduced Greg to the game of soccer tennis.  The morning ended with Greg and Ben, along with two others taking on Richard and three Residency team members in a match of soccer tennis.

We were able to capture some of the behind the scenes footage of yesterday morning’s coverage as well as an interview conducted by Carl with Greg.
