VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:
Although Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between Whitecaps FC and D.C. United, Vancouver's head coach Tommy Soehn is no stranger to the Eastern Conference club (Travis Clark - MLSSoccer.com).

Prior to joining Whitecaps FC, Soehn spent six seasons on the D.C. United bench including the last three as head coach. Only a couple years removed, Soehn will be facing a number of players he once coached and even played with in Josh Wolff, who kindly refers to Soehn as "Old touch-tackle Tommy" (Craig Stouffer - Washington Examiner).

Canadian international Dwayne De Rosario tops the list of Weber's three things to watch (Marc Weber - The Province), while D.C. United will look to apply pressure early (Charles McGregor - Yahoo!). Even without all the connections, Saturday's match is sure to be a battle with both sides looking to earn three valuable points at RFK Stadium (Match preview - MLSSoccer.com).

Experienced midfielder Peter Vagenas knows the importance of building off wins (Martin MacMahon - MLSSoccer.com) and the return of Gambian captain Mustapha Jarju can only help. Jarju missed Saturday's 4-2 victory over Chicago as he is also looking to help The Gambia qualify for the 2012 African Nations Cup (Sulayman Bah - FOROYAA Online). Another player that will be available is Canadian youngster Russell Teibert, who has taken steps backwards to move forward (Marc Weber - The Province).

One person that will be paying close attention to this weekend's match is Whitecaps FC 2012 head coach Martin Rennie. In addition to preparing for his RailHawks match against Puerto Rico Islanders, Rennie made an appearance on It's Called Football and FAN 590's The Soccer Show.

Saturday's match is live on Sportsnet Pacific, online at mdl.mlssoccer.com, and on TEAM 1040 sports radio.
