'Caps Chronicle - Super Substitutes

'Caps Chronicle - August 28

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in British Columbia, Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated Houston Dynamo 1-0 at Empire Field to claim their fourth victory of the season. ‘Caps hero, Shea Salinas, scored his first goal of the season which also turned out to be the winning goal (Marc Weber – The Province).

While the entire Whitecaps FC team played a strong 90 minutes in front of goalkeeper Joe Cannon, it was the ‘Caps substitutes who wreaked havoc against Houston Dynamo. Bruce Constantineau writes, “Shea Salinas scored the winning goal for the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday but gave all the credit to teammate Long Tan”. Houston’s loss keeps them winless on the road this season following Vancouver’s fourth home win of the season (Bruce Constantineau – Vancouver Sun).

“Houston, we’ve got a problem”. Shea Salinas helped Vancouver Whitecaps FC claim their fourth victory of the season on Saturday night against Houston Dynamo and it was the Texan himself who scored the goal against his home-state team.  It’s good,” Salinas told MLSsoccer.com when asked how it felt to score against a team from his home state. “Most of my family live in Houston, and my last goal was actually in Houston last year, so it was nice” (Martin MacMahon – MLSsoccer.com).

Following Whitecaps FC’s back-to-back win’s at Empire Field, the ‘Caps now face a two-match road trip against New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy. In this critical analysis, Russell Berrisford breaks down five ‘nuggets of information’ that Martin Rennie might have learned on Saturday. “DeMerit and Rochat being paired together at the back meant that any Houston threats came from outside the area” (Russell Berrisford – Vancouver Sun).
