VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:
With Vancouver Whitecaps FC earning a 1-0 victory over Houston Dynamo at Empire Field last Saturday afternoon, Shea Salinas received high praise for scoring the match’s only goal. Today, forward Long Tan receives recognition for his strong performance off the bench. “I thought he changed the game," said captain Jay DeMerit. "We look for guys to come on and change things, that's what subs are meant to do, and he definitely did that” (Marc Weber – The Province).
Others were also writing about MLS’ first Chinese born soccer player. Bruce Constantineau broke down Tan’s efforts, which helped him earn his first MLS point. "The scoring play started with an awkward pass from Salinas to Tan, but Tan fought off a defender and turned smartly before sending Salinas on his way with a terrific ball” (Bruce Constantineau – Vancouver Sun).

While Salinas and Tan grabbed the headlines this weekend, Whitecaps FC midfielder Gershon Koffie played a stellar match, displaying his offensive wisdom and defensive awareness, as the 19-year old Ghanaian continues to impress the coaching staff (Marc Weber – The Province).
Following back-to-back home wins at Empire Field, the ‘Caps now have a week off to receive some R&R before heading out for a two-match road trip against New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy. Not everyone will be resting though, as Whitecaps FC midfielder Nizar Khalfan will report to his national team for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.‘Caps forward Mustapha Jarju will also be participating in the competition (Tanzania Daily News).

“The Canadian Soccer Association last week released ticket sales information for the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament that will be held at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, BC, from January 19 to 29, 2012. Tournament packages will go on sale September 9, 2011, with affordable prices featuring an average ticket price of just under $6.50 per match across 15 matches in eight days of world class soccer” (whitecapsfc.com).
