The 2nd Annual KidSport Fair Trade Community Soccer Match took place this past Sunday at Surrey’s Tom Binnie Park in celebration of the resilience and leadership capabilities of KidSport Canada’s “Youth Sport Navigators”.
With coaching assistance provided by Whitecaps FC players Amy Vermeulenand Zoe Makrigiannis, the match showcased the athletic talents of the Youth Sport Navigators – a group of Surrey refugee youths from war-torn countries supported by KidSport Canada. The opposition came from two local youth soccer association teams – the Surdel Girls and Central City Boys.

Among the VIP’s to attend were Member of Parliament Jasbir Sandhu, Surrey city councillor Barinder Rasode, Surrey Metro Soccer chairman Dave McEwan, Steve Allen of the BC Soccer board of directors, Port Moody Boathouse general manager Amber Brownlee, Dr. Anita Parhar, and Dr. Gurdeep Parhar of the Pearls for Success program, and Whitecaps Foundation director Sandy Hancock.

The event was held in the heart of Surrey's rapidly developing downtown core next to the beautiful Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre and Skatepark to highlight the city's commitment to promoting cultural diversity and opportunities for youth.
