Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that defender Wes Knight has been waived.
"We want to thank Wes for the contributions he made to our club over the past two-plus seasons and wish him all the best for the future," said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi.
Knight, 24, made 12 Major League Soccer appearances with Whitecaps FC for 805 minutes of action, recording one assist. A native of Easley, South Carolina, Knight first joined Whitecaps FC for the 2009 United Soccer Leagues First Division campaign after spending five years with College of Charleston.

Whitecaps FC return to MLS regular season action on Saturday, September 10, when they visit New York Red Bulls at 4:30 p.m. PT. Vancouver's match at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, will be broadcast live on Sportsnet Pacific, TEAM 1040, Bell mobile devices, as well as online at MLS MatchDay Live.
Whitecaps FC return to Bell Pitch at Empire Field on Saturday, September 24, to host Pacific Northwest rivals Seattle Sounders FC. METHODS OF RELEASING PLAYERS
Teams may waive players based on performance at any time during the MLS season. Players with guaranteed contracts will continue to have their salary budget charge applied to the team salary budget, subject to any settlement. Players on semi-guaranteed contracts can be waived prior to July 1 of any year and free up the corresponding budget space. If a player on a semi-guaranteed contract is waived after July 1, his salary budget charge will count against the team's salary budget and the team waiving the player will not receive a replacement except under the normal player acquisition mechanisms.
