Are you a gamer? EA Sports today unveiled the full list of stadiums to be incorporated into their FIFA 12 videogame, including the newly renovated Bell Pitch downtown at BC Place (Alex Winehouse – Gigwise).


Speaking of the 'Caps future home, incase you missed it, here is a good piece on the refurbished stadium, which promises to be better than ever (Ed Willes – The Province).


With children and students preparing to go back to school this week, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are helping provide a ‘recess’ break with another installment of their summer camp program. On September 10th and 11th, the ‘Caps return to Nanaimo’s Beban Park Gyro Youth Sports Field for a special weekend of soccer and skills development and we want you to participate (Greg Sakaki – Nanaimo News Bulliten).

Have you been enjoying Whitecaps FC's match day programs this season? Southsider and blogger Michael McColl has been a long-time collector of programs and provides his opinion on the ‘Caps version. McColl notes, “At 32-40 informative and well written pages, you can clearly see that every issue of the Caps production is put together with care and attention and not just done as an afterthought. I only wish that other MLS clubs had this passion” (Michael McColl – Metro Vancouver).

The winner of the “BMO Team of the Week competition came to a close with a team from Vaughan, Ontario winning $125,000 towards a community soccer field refurbishment, a $5,000 donation to a charity of their choice, which they have donated to the Canadian Paralympic Committee, as well as a road trip to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC match versus Colorado Rapids on October 22” (whitecapsfc.com).

With less than one month until Vancouver Whitecaps FC move into Bell Pitch downtown, Brandon Timko highlights some history and improvements of our new home. “The biggest change to the venue – originally built in 1983 – will of course be the new retractable roof, which will turn the stadium into a year-round open-air facility. With support masts each measuring 47 metres tall, the cable-supported roof will be the biggest of its kind in the world and will produce a 100 metre by 85 metre blue sky opening” (Brandon Timko – whitecapsfc.com).

GLOBAL SOCCER REPORT:

The Canadian men defeated St. Lucia last Friday evening to begin their 2014 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying process on a winning note. The ‘red and white’ were victorious with a 4-1 result and TSN’s Luke Wileman provided his analysis of the match (Luke Wileman – TSN).    

“The 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament will be held at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, BC, from January 19 to 29, 2012. Tournament packages will go on sale September 9, 2011, with affordable prices featuring an average ticket price of just under $6.50 per match across 15 matches in eight days of world class soccer” (whitecapsfc.com).
