VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

With ‘Caps forward Omar Salgado scoring the game winning goal in the 11th minute, Vancouver Whitecaps FC reserves were able to defeat San Jose Earthquakes reserves 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at Swangard Stadium. The victory improves the ‘Caps reserve record to 2W-4L-2D with two matches remaining in MLS Reserve competition (Marc Weber – The Province).

Prior to the Whitecaps FC reserves victory yesterday, the team received a visit from one of Canada’s most famous and respected athlete’s in Steve Nash. The two-time NBA MVP and co-owner of Vancouver Whitecaps FC practiced with the squad yesterday before speaking to the media (Elliott Pap – Vancouver Sun).

"It was a lot of fun," Nash said afterwards. "For me it's a great opportunity not just to get a kick-around with the guys, but to get to know them a little bit. As a fan it's fun to meet them and know them. As an owner it's fun to get the temperature of the club and how the guys' spirits are" (Canadian Press – TSN).

Even in Toronto, Nash’s visit received attention as the NBA lockout continues just prior to training camp. ‘Caps captain Jay DeMerit also saw Nash’s visit as a major positive before the team travels to New York to battle Red Bulls this Saturday. “For somebody to have a career like he has in the fashion that he has it, that comes with immediate respect," DeMerit said. "To have him around is a very good positive for this place" (Hosea Cheung – Toronto Sun).

Later this month, EA Sports will release FIFA 12, with Vancouver Whitecaps FC fully integrated into the new game. A fresh trailer for the highly anticipated game has come out, featuring a manoeuvre made infamous at the 2010 FIFA World Cup final (Alex Winehouse – Gigwise).
