'Caps Chronicle: Crown Jewel

'Caps Chronicle - Sept 8, 2011

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

The renovation to BC Place is now in it's final stages, and yesterday a media tour was held to show off many of the new upgrades and features of the revamped facility.  "This is a complete refurbishment using the really solid bones of the original BC Place. We've created an entirely new, really modern, much more functional venue than the original building," said chairman of BC Pavillion Corporation David Podmore (Gerry Bellett – Vancouver Sun).

And with the overhaul almost complete, Whitecaps FC fans will get to experience the glamour and beauty of Vancouver’s new crown jewel when the ‘Caps play their first match on Bell Pitch downtown against Portland Timbers on October 2. Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi summed things up best: "We've gone from the minor leagues to the major leagues, in the league that we play and in the stadium we play in" (Ian Austin – The Province).

Excited to get that fresh air feel at the new venue? Learn about how the new roof will allow for more natural light and create a new, positive atmosphere. “I think it really changes the atmosphere and feel," Podmore said.  "It definitely doesn't feel so tight and enclosed. It'll be wonderful on a beautiful sunny evening” (Shane Bigham – News 1130).

Looking at this weekend, the ‘Caps will battle New York Red Bulls on Saturday as they continue the hunt for their first victory on the road in MLS competition. Check out how the ‘Caps prepare for road matches and what routines the players use to deal with the long travel days (Marc Weber – The Province).
