Last week the Canadian women's national team won gold at the 2011 Pan American games. The roster included 2011 Whitecaps FC women's players Kaylyn Kyle, Tina Romagnuolo and Shannon Woeller.
Also, the collegiate season is heading towards the finish line in both the United States and Canada. Check out how some former Whitecaps FC women's players are doing with their respective school teams.
The Whitecaps FC Girls Elite U-18 team, meanwhile, continue to play well as they've remained on an unbeaten run with a draw and a win in the last two weeks.
NCAA:
Sydney Leroux has had yet another strong week playing for UCLA, earning her second hat-trick in as many weeks. As well, she scored the only goal on Sunday against Utah to help her team win 1-0. Her scoring talents have landed her a few awards as well, being named Pac 12 Player of the Week, LA Soccer News Player of the Week and Soccer News Net Women’s College Player of the Week. Lexi Marton of Penn State University was, for the first time, named to the All-Big Ten First Team which is not surprising considering the season she has had thus far on a team that has gone 17-3-0. Her teammate, Erin McNulty has also had a strong year and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team as goalkeeper. With the Big Ten Championship tournament already underway and Penn State looking to be crowned champions, find out what their journey might look like and who could spoil their plans. Oregon State’s Jenna Richardson had a great game over the weekend , scoring the only goal for her team at six minutes into the first half. Unfortunately, Stanford took over in the next half scoring two and eventually winning the match. However, the next day the Beaver’s beat UCLA for just the third time in the school’s history. This coming Friday will be the last regular season for the Beaver’s and an important one to move up in the standings. (osubeavers.com)

Mizzou’s Abi Raymer is having quite the freshman season as only one of five players on her team to reach the 10-point mark so far this season. UVic just clinched a Canada West Championship playoff berth this past weekend, thanks in large part to Jaclyn Sawicki and her two goals in a 2-1 win over Fraser Valley Cascades, the Vikes will be heading to Langley to play Trinity Western on Saturday, November 5th. (bclocalnews.com)

GIRLS ELITE U-18 SQUAD CONTINUE UNBEATEN STREAK

Two weeks ago, the Girls Elite U-18 squad played to a draw against NSGSC Renegades. Madison Guy and Brittany Ambrose led the way for Whitecaps FC, with goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis getting the start in net.
The team was not happy with their effort against the Renegades, and it showed last week as they stepped up their level of play to earn a victory against the Mountain United FC U-16 team.
The ‘Caps received strong attacking contributions from forward Shayla Chorney and attacking midfielder Sam Dion in the first half.
At halftime the theme was high pressure defending in order to press the opponent. The pressure paid off for Whitecaps FC who continued their strong attacking play.
At the 64-minute mark, Whitecaps FC put together a great build-up down the left flank that started with left back Lindsey Pulice. Pulice played a ball to the corner to Chorney who ran past her defender to save the ball from going over the endline. Chorney then played a diagonal ball to forward Jasmine Dhanda, who then flicked it with the outside of her foot to forward Kajal Parmar, whose first time shot was destined for the back of the net as soon as it left her foot.
Holding midfielder and team captain Tamara Roughead and forward Lucielle Kozlov stood out for Whitecaps FC in the latter stages of the match. Goalkeepers Jules McDonald and Kayla Klim combined in net for the ‘Caps.
