We start with exciting news on the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite front, as Jasmine Mander, Julia McDonald, Elissa Neff and Kajal Parmarwere all named to Canada’s U-17 national team roster for training camp in Florida from November 19-27. Mander, Neff and Parmar were each previously called up for camp in August.
College soccer has been on the mind of many players on the Whitecaps FC U-18 Girls Elite squad. Several players have already committed to schools for next year, while others have been away venturing on college visits.
Speaking of college, the postseason has arrived for our Whitecaps FC women playing the soccer at school. A number of players are gearing up for the NCAA tournament in the United States, while others have been grinding through the CIS playoffs here in Canada. Without further ado, let’s take a look.
CIS:
With the help of defender Vanessa Kovacs and goalkeeper Kristen Funk, the Trinity Western Spartans were crowned the Canada West champions on Sunday, November 6. This means they’ve headed to Montreal to play in the CIS national championships in search of their third national title in four years. (twu.ca)
Even though UVic was not victorious against Trinity Western in the Canada West finals over the weekend, Jaclyn Sawicki was still able to take a title home. Jaclyn was named a first-team Canada West All-Star for her team leading point total. (The Times Colonist)
NCAA:
Sydney Leroux continued her scoring ways with 2 goals and an assist to end the regular season on Friday versus USC. Leroux is the team leader in goals with 16 total for the season. The post-season will be in progress this weekend with the NCAA championships beginning. UCLA was seeded 2nd and will host New Mexico on Saturday, November 12th. Leroux’s efforts this season saw her named to the All-Pac-12 First Team(uclabruins.com)
Lexi Marton, Erin McNulty and their Penn State team fell to Illinois over the weekend, 2-1 in the Big Ten finals. However, the very next day, attentions turned to a new challenge as the NCAA tournament draw revealed that Army will be their first round opponents. Friday is the kickoff to the tournament but before that, be sure to watch the highlights from this incredible season for our Whitecaps FC women on Penn State. (GoPSUSports.com)
Ranee Premji and Amber Brooks will also be taking part in the NCAA tournament this weekend with their University of North Carolina team. North Carolina is the 3rd seed and will be opening the tournament against William and Mary this Saturday. (tarheelblue.com)
Jenna Richardson of Oregon State was just named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team for her academic achievements as a student athlete. As well, she and Erin Uchacz will be joining their Beavers team in NCAA action this weekend against the Portland Pilots. (osubeavers.com)
Abi Raymer had a big week, recording a goal against Baylor in the Big 12 tournament to help her team to the semi-final against Texas A&M. However, Missouri was unfortunately held scoreless in that semi-final game and were defeated 3-0. (Columbia Daily Tribune)
Syracuse’s Tina Romagnuolo was officially named to the All-Big East second team. Being named to the team is a huge honour for Tina as she earned the spot by being voted in by the league’s head coaches! (suathletics.com)
