Whitecaps FC reveal expansion draft protected list

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC revealed today the list of 11 players who will be ineligible for selection during the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft on Wednesday, November 23. Homegrown players Bryce Alderson, Philippe Davies, Nizar Khalfan, Brian Sylvestre, and Russell Teibert, as well as Generation adidas players Omar Salgado and Michael Nanchoff are also exempt from the draft, due to their status. The event will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com.

With a total of 18 Whitecaps FC players exempt from selection (11 protected players plus five Homegrown and two Generation adidas players), 10 Whitecaps FC members will be available for selection by the league’s 19th club Montreal Impact. The Impact will select 10 players from the other 18 league clubs with each team only eligible to lose a maximum of one player in Wednesday’s draft.
