WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS

Now that the semi-final matchups for the 2012 Amway Canadian Championship are set, we can begin looking ahead to the interprovincial encounters. For Whitecaps FC fans, that means the return of several familiar faces on FC Edmonton. “Vancouver’s a beautiful city, and I can’t wait to play in BC Place,” said former 'Caps player Alex Semenets. “I’ve been looking forward to the game since we all first heard that we were going to play the Whitecaps. But, there are a lot of people at the club who I respect and admire.” (Steven Sandor – The11.ca)

The big news yesterday was the ‘Caps acquisition of Sebastian Le Toux, adding to an already potent attack. Le Toux gives his thoughts on Vancouver Whitecaps FC, the Cascadia rivalry, and the possible French connection between him and Eric Hassli. (Marc Weber – The Province)

Head coach Martin Rennie, meanwhile, talked about the acquisition of Sebastian Le Toux from the team’s preseason camp in Casa Grande, Arizona. He believes Le Toux posseses tremendous skill that will greatly benefit the club in the upcoming season. (Monte Stewart – The Canadian Press)

CANADIAN SOCCER SCENE

Following a very successful 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament at BC Place, head coach John Herdman and players on Canada’s women’s national team were thrown a curve ball on Monday when the Women’s Professional Soccer league (WPS) announced that they were suspending operations for the 2012 season. With this news, several prominent national team players could potentially be looking at playing with Whitecaps FC this summer ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.
