Sportsnet returns as the regional broadcaster for Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday with the ‘Caps playing their first road match of 2012 against Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet West.
This season’s broadcasts will see a number of new features designed to maximize the viewing experience, including additional sideline interviews, in-depth analysis, and isolated cameras following key players during the match.
“Canada is a passionate soccer country and we’re thrilled to fuel fans with our extensive Whitecaps FC coverage this season,” said Rob Corte, vice president of production, Sportsnet.
Another new addition to Sportsnet’s broadcasts is Canadian Soccer Hall of Famer Paul Dolan on colour commentary. Dolan will join play-by-play announcer Craig MacEwen in the broadcast booth to call all of Sportsnet’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC telecasts, and will appear as a soccer analyst on Connected with Don Taylor on Sportsnet Pacific.
“I’m very excited, it’s a huge opportunity with a station committed to Whitecaps FC and to the sport of soccer,” Dolan told whitecapsfc.com. “I’m really looking forward to working with Craig and the rest of the crew,”
Throughout the season, sportsnet.ca will also provide fans with weekly Whitecaps FC blogs from John Molinaro, Martin MacMahon and Irfaan Gaffar. In addition, Dolan will post a blog that will feature a Q&A with fans.
