VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Whitecaps FC College Showcase for boys and girls teams from U-15 through U-18. The girls showcase will take place from March 17-19, with the boys showcase happening from March 23-25. Both events will be held at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, BC.

The Whitecaps FC College Showcase will provide a unique opportunity for players from some of the top club teams in Canada and the United States to demonstrate their talents to university coaches and scouts with the potential of scholarship opportunities.

Over 100 teams are projected to attend, including committed participation from each team in the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League. As part of the tournament, entrants will play three full-length matches refereed by top-rated officials. Teams interested in applying for the showcase should contact Chris Murphy, head of recruitment, for more information.

The event will also include matches from the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) league featuring Whitecaps FC U-16 and U-18 Residency teams in action against De Anza Force U-15/U-16 and U-17/U-18, as well as matches from the Whitecaps FC U-18 Girls Elite squad. Senior coaching staff from both programs will also be on hand scouting matches throughout the showcase tournament.
“Many Whitecaps FC alumni have gone on to scholarships, while others have pursued professional careers,” said Whitecaps FC director of soccer development, Dan Lenarduzzi. “This College Showcase leverages the club’s profile, resources, and network to provide a valuable local opportunity for even more players.”

Among the players to have come through the Whitecaps FC club system are Russell Teibert and Monica Lam-Feist. Teibert participated in the Whitecaps FC Residency program and is now on the club’s Major League Soccer (MLS) roster.
