MATCH PREVIEW

Looking to build on a two-match winning streak in the MLS Reserve League, Vancouver Whitecaps FC reserves (3W-1L-1D) host LA Galaxy reserves (2W-1L-1D) on Tuesday morning. Kickoff from Thunderbird Stadium on the campus of the University of British Columbia (UBC) is set for 11 a.m. PT and admission is free of charge.

Sitting atop the Reserve League’s West Division standings, the ‘Caps second string are still looking for their first home win of the season after claiming all three of their Reserve League victories on the road. Results at home this season include a season-opening draw versus Seattle Sounders FC reserves on March 26 and a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Portland Timbers reserves on April 22.

Whitecaps FC assistant coach Carl Robinson (pictured left) will have a very experienced squad to choose from for Tuesday’s match, with players that saw little to no action in Sunday’s first-team win over Houston Dynamo likely earning a start versus the Galaxy’s second string. Eric Hassli and Camilo Sanvezzo will be available, as will trialist Anton Peterlin. Callum Irving, Daniel Stanese, and Ben Fisk from the Whitecaps FC Residency program are among the several youngsters that Robinson can choose to select versus the Galaxy reserves.

“We’re hoping to see a continuation of the performances that we have seen so far and to maintain the players’ fitness,” Robinson told whitecapsfc.com. “We’ve got a busy schedule coming up next week, with three games in seven days, so this reserve match will help with match sharpness. We’ve got a very strong squad for Tuesday, so it’s important that the players go out and show how good they are against LA.”

The ‘Caps reserves have two more home matches during their 2012 Reserve League campaign. Those two remaining home matches will also be held at UBC Thunderbird Stadium: Monday, July 23, against Chivas USA reserves and Monday, September 10, against San Jose Earthquakes reserves. Kickoff for both matches at Thunderbird Stadium is also set for 11 a.m. PT and admission is free of charge.
