Canada has announced details and roster for an upcoming women's U-20 camp in Montréal, Quebec from July 3 to 8, 2012. Canadian U-20 coach Andrew Olivieri has selected 24 players for the six-day camp.
Among the 24 players selected are four Vancouver Whitecaps FC women's players, including defenders Nicole Ambrose and Nicole Setterlund, midfielder Jaclyn Sawicki, and striker Jenna Richardson. From this national youth camp, 20 players will then be selected for a two-week camp in Italy and Switzerland.
Canada will play in two women's U-20 international friendly matches in Europe, with a match against Italy on July 14 in Verbania, Italy and a match against Switzerland on July 20 in Buochs, Switzerland.
Earlier this year, Canada qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Japan 2012 with a silver-medal performance at the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship. Since March, players returned to their respective schools to finish their academic years. Players are now underway with their 2012 W-League summer seasons in British Columbia, Ontario and Québec.
Canada will participate in its fifth FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup from August 19 to September 8 2012. Sixteen teams will participate in the summer tournament, with Canada set to face Argentina, Norway and Korea DPR in the group phase. Canada's three group matches are August 20 against Argentina in Kobe, August 23 against Norway in Kobe, and August 27 against Korea DPR in Saitama.
