Whitecaps FC and BC Soccer celebrate BC Coaches Week: Teresa Musgrave

Coaches Week 4

British Columbia Coaches Week kicked off this past Friday, September 14, 2012. This week, Vancouver Whitecaps FC together with BC Soccer would like to extend our appreciation to the many BC coaches that dedicate their time and share their knowledge and abilities with over 120,000 registered soccer players across the province.

Earlier this year, BC Soccer, in partnership with Coaches BC organized a group of 75 experienced coaches to deliver soccer-specific community coach stream courses to educate its valued members and coaches across BC. We will spend this week highlighting each phase of the workshops and recognizing the coaches that helped facilitate them. For more information on the national coaching pathway and soccer coaching certification please click here.

COACHES WEEK FEATURES

After covering Active Start, Fundamentals, and Learn to Train, we have reached the final stage: Soccer for Life. This is the last phase in the national coaching pathway and soccer coaching certification. Also called “Soccer for Health & Grassroots Growth’”, the last stage focuses on the tactical awareness of both the technical and mental skills required for ages U-13 to U-18+ in their transition into adult soccer.

Today we recognize the BC Soccer learning facilitator for this course, Teresa Musgrave. We would like to recognize and thank Teresa for over 10 years of commitment and dedication to coaching and training others in BC. Teresa also currently takes on the role of league administrator for the Metro Women’s Soccer League, one of the largest women’s soccer leagues in Canada. In being asked how the Soccer for Life course benefits young soccer players today, Teresa states:

“For coaches who want good information and perhaps don’t want to pursue high performance courses or be in an environment to be formally evaluated, this is a fantastic two day learning opportunity. Players can only benefit from the format and resource material available to these coaches.BC Soccer has offered courses only to females in the past and I think it’s great to have that option to offer gender-specific courses, but the higher levels you go…a coach is a coach.”

In addition to delivering the formal pathway of coaching certification in the province, BC Soccer is proud to support supplemental coaching-education opportunities such as the first ever Whitecaps FC Coaching Clinic presented by Tim Hortons.

Whitecaps FC would like to invite all coaches to join our technical coaching staff this Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. PT at BC Place for our free Whitecaps FC Coaching Clinic presented by Tim Hortons. Register now for your chance to gain expert advice and coaching tips from MLS level coaching staff.
