Vancouver Whitecaps FC reserves (3W-5L-2D) were defeated 6-0 by LA Galaxy reserves (6W-3L-1D) at The Home Depot Center's University Field #1 in their final match of the 2012 MLS Reserve League season on Friday morning.
A pair of positives to come out of the Southern California trip were the return of striker Omar Salgado and minutes for three U-18 Residency players. It was the United States U-20 international’s first match since fracturing a bone in his right foot on June 6.
The 19-year-old even came close to scoring three minutes before halftime when he shook off David Junior Lopes and sent a looping shot crashing into the Galaxy crossbar.
Brazilian Tiago Ulisses played his second straight match for the 'Caps reserves, while midfielder Jun Marques Davidson was playing in an unfamiliar role in central defence alongside Argentine Martin Bonjour.
LA opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Pat Noonan, but Whitecaps FC reserves were able to keep the deficit to one goal at halftime.
The hosts then scored five goals in the second half to clinch the Reserve League's West Division title.
