UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA VIKES
This is the Vikes’ first match of 2013. Following their 2011 CIS Championship victory, their 2012 season saw them finish sixth in the Canada West with a 6W-6L-2D record, causing them to fall short of qualifying for 2012’s national tournament held in Laval, Quebec.
‘Caps fans will have to keep a keen eye on Cam Hundal, who previously spent time with Whitecaps FC Residency. He is returning for his third year with the Vikes.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Between 2005 and 2012, the ‘Caps have faced the Vikes seven times in friendly matches, with Whitecaps FC holding a record of 5W-1L-1D against the CIS side.
Current Vikes men’s head coach Bruce Wilson played with Whitecaps FC during their formative years in the North American Soccer League, playing for four seasons from 1974 to 1977. In addition to Hundal, at least four other former Vikes players have also turned out for Whitecaps FC; Jamie Lowery, Geordie Lyall and the Craveiro brothers Chris and Nico.
NEXT UP
Whitecaps FC will head back to Vancouver following the match in Victoria for a scrimmage against the Simon Fraser University men’s soccer team at Thunderbird Stadium on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.
