VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves return to the field on Tuesday evening to play their third of three matches against local university sides over the past week when they face Simon Fraser University Clan. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT at UBC's Thunderbird Stadium.


The match is open to the public and free of charge. Fans can also follow live updates of the match on Twitter through @WhitecapsMatch.


WHITECAPS FC

After a dissapointing defeat against the University of British Columbia, Whitecaps FC Reserves responded with a strong 3-0 win against the University of Victoria on Saturday.


Camilo, Erik Hurtado and Tommy Heinemann scored the goals for the 'Caps while goalkeepers Brad Knighton and Simon Thomas combined for the shutout. The match also saw the first game action in a while for Omar Salgado, who continues to regain his fitness.


"I was really pleased with the game and how it was played," said head coach Martin Rennie following the match. "Most importantly we played well as a team and we had motivation to really fight and work hard, which is really important for us in every game we play."


SFU CLAN

SFU are coming off of a very successful season in which they became the first ever school outside of the United States to qualify for the NCAA Division II men's soccer tournament. The Clan went on to make an impressive run to the Final Four. This accomplishment is made all the more impressive considering it was their first opportunity to qualify for the tournament after being granted full membership to the NCAA.


The Clan are coached by Alan Koch, who was formerly head coach of Whitecaps FC's W-League team.


UP NEXT

Following Tuesday's match, Whitecaps FC will look ahead to their first away match of the 2013 MLS season as they travel to Texas to take on Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium this coming Saturday, March 23. Kickoff for Saturday's match is 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on Sportsnet Pacific and Bell Mobile devices. Fans can also listen live on TEAM 1410 or teamradio.ca.


The next match for Whitecaps FC Reserves will be their first of the 2013 MLS Reserve League season when they host Real Salt Lake Reserves on Sunday, April 14 at Thunderbird Stadium. Kickoff for that match will be 11 a.m. PT.
