Amway Canadian Championship kicks off next week

The opening leg of the 2013 Amway Canadian Championship semifinal stage kicks off on Wednesday April 24 in Toronto, ON and Edmonton, AB. The four Canadian professional clubs, Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, FC Edmonton and Impact Montréal, will battle it out for the right to represent Canada in the 2013-2014 CONCACAF Champions League.

The Amway Canadian Championship will again this year feature six matches over four Wednesday nights, with the semifinal series on April 24 and May 1, and the championship final series on May 15 and 29.


As part of a new three-year agreement between the Canadian Soccer Association and Sportsnet for the Amway Canadian Championship, all 2013 matches will be broadcast live on Sportsnet. In addition, the 24 April and 1 May matches featuring Impact Montréal will be broadcast on TVA Sports.

On one side of the semifinal stage, four-time defending champion Toronto FC will host Impact Montréal, the one other national winner in the Championship's short history (2008), in a repeat of last year’s Eastern semifinal. Leg one of this semifinal will be played at BMO Field on April 24 (kickoff at 4:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific). The two clubs will resume their semifinal in Montreal on May 1 (kickoff at 4:45 p.m. PT).


Vancouver Whitecaps FC will once again this year travel to FC Edmonton, the lone NASL club in this year’s Championship, for the other semifinal. The first leg of their semifinal will be held on April 24 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB with a 6:.45 p.m. PT kickoff (broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific). The two clubs will meet again in Vancouver on May 1 (kickoff at 7:15 p.m. PT) in the second leg of their semifinal.


The home-and-away Championship final will be played on May 15 and 29.
