Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that winger Omar Salgado has been called in by the United States U-20 national team for training camp from April 22 to 29 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The team will be preparing for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which takes place June 21 to July 13 in Turkey.

As a result, Salgado will miss Wednesday's Amway Canadian Championship opener in Edmonton and Saturday's MLS regular season match at home to FC Dallas at BC Place.

Salgado, 19, was last called into camp with the U.S. U-20 national team in June of 2012, when he fractured his right foot in a 4-2 friendly defeat to Uruguay’s U-20 side. The young American has since recovered from the injury. Most recently, Salgado played in the last two Whitecaps FC reserve matches, including a start against the University of Washington Huskies on April 16.

The native of El Paso, Texas is now in his third MLS season with Whitecaps FC, having made 21 league appearances over his first two seasons.
