Whitecaps FC loan Bryce Alderson to Charleston

Bryce Alderson PDL action

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that midfielder Bryce Alderson will join United Soccer Leagues (USL) Pro side Charleston Battery on a season-long loan.

“Bryce is one of the top young talents in Canadian soccer and he possesses a great deal of potential,” said Martin Rennie, Whitecaps FC head coach. “At his stage of development it is important to get as much competitive action as possible and we feel that he can benefit from spending time with Charleston Battery, who we have an excellent relationship with.”

Alderson, 19, joins Whitecaps FC teammates Ben Fisk and Emmanuel Adjetey on loan in South Carolina.

“I hear great things about Charleston and the club and I’m looking forward to this new opportunity as I continue my development,” added Alderson.

The midfielder joined the Whitecaps FC Residency program in September 2010 and in November 2011 joined the club’s MLS roster as a Generation adidas Homegrown player.

Last year, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario, made six appearances and scored one goal in MLS Reserve League action. The midfielder also made five appearances for Whitecaps FC U-23 in the USL Premier Development League (PDL). In addition, Alderson scored six goals in 21 appearances for Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency in the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA. Alderson’s efforts helped the ’Caps reach the championship match as he was named to the USSDA U-18 West Conference Team of the Year.

Internationally, Alderson has represented Canada at the U-23, U-20, and U-17 levels – serving as captain during the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup – and was named Canadian U-17 Player of the Year in both 2010 and 2011.
