VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that midfielder/striker Omar Salgado underwent successful foot surgery performed by Dr. Bert Mandelbaum in Santa Monica on May 8, 2013.

The 19-year-old native of El Paso, Texas, re-fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during a recent U-20 camp in Los Angeles, California. Salgado initially fractured his right foot last June and suffered a setback last October before returning to reserve match action in March.

“There is no question that the last year has been challenging for Omar but we are optimistic and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch in the near future,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. “On behalf of the club, I wish him a speedy recovery.”

In just over two seasons with the club, Salgado has made 24 appearances with the first team scoring one goal and adding three assists.
