Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency rebounded from their first defeat of the season on Saturday with an emphatic 4-0 win over Santa Cruz Breakers Academy.

The boys in white opened the scoring midway through the first half when Dario Zanatta - called up to the U-18s this weekend from the U-16 squad - drove past his defender into the boz and was taken down to earn a penalty kick. Defender Sam Adekugbe stepped up to bury the ensuing spot kick to make the score 1-0.

The 'Caps then doubled their advantage on 56 minutes through a terrific strike from Zanatta.

The last 30 minutes of the match saw more of the same. Mitch Piraux put in a third goal in the 63rd minute on another good hit. Titouan Chopin rounded out the scoring in the 75th, firing home from the top ox the box after a good ball in from Adekugbe.

With a number of U-16 players stepping up to the U-18 squad for the weekend, head coach Gordon Forrest was pleased to see them progress in their development.

"It was a really good performance today and great to get a clean sheet," said Forrest. "The really exciting thing for us is to see the younger 1997-born players step up and put in a very strong performance."
