EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League Cup finals this weekend at Cloverdale Athletic Park

BCSPL 2012

VANCOUVER, BC - After another exciting season, the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) play their 2013 Cup finals this weekend at Cloverdale Athletic Park, hosted by Surrey United.

The BCSPL is the official partner league and main scouting vehicle for Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency and Girls Elite programs. This year alone, 16 players from the BCSPL joined Whitecaps FC youth development teams, including Girls Elite defender Rachel Jones (Mountain United FC) - co-winner of this year's Most Promising Player at the 2013 Whitecaps FC Player Awards presented by BMO.

“There are going to be some incredible matches over the two days as the league winners of phase 1 will compete against the league winners of phase 2 for the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League Cup,” said Matt Holbrook, general manager of the BCSPL. “This is some of the highest quality youth soccer in the province and we’re excited to see what these young players will bring to the pitch.”

The BCSPL Cup finals are a single game format where the winners of phase one of the BCSPL season will battle the winners of phase two to crown the champions in each division from U-13 to U-17 for both girls and boys. For the first time ever, the winning team will have the opportunity to travel down to Washington State to compete for the inaugural Northwest League Cup.

This weekend’s BCSPL Cup finals coincide with the U-13 Intake Festival, hosted by Coastal FC at South Surrey Athletic Park. Opening ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday November 16.  Following the opening ceremonies each team will play six mini-matches over the two day jamboree.

“The U-13 Intake Festival is the perfect way for players, coaches, and parents to wrap up this phase of the BCSPL”, said Michael Findlay, director of soccer development.
