VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadian Soccer Association announced on Thursday that three Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite players were called up to the Canadian women’s U-17 national team as they begin their final preparations for the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Midfielder Jenna Baxter and defenders Simmrin Dhaliwal and Rachel Jones were included in head coach Bev Priestman’s 29-player roster for a camp that will run from January 16 to January 28 in Bradenton, Florida. During the tam, the team will train, keep up on their school studies, and play in a game against the IMG Academy.
This will likely be one of the last chances for players to impress as Canada kicks off their World Cup campaign on March 15 against Germany in Liberia, Costa Rica. They’ll follow that up on March 18 against Korea DPR before completing the group stage against Ghana in Tibas, Costa Rica on March 22.
