Whitecaps FC acquire international spot from Chicago Fire in exchange for midfielder Matt Watson

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that they have acquired an international roster spot – through to December 31, 2014 – from Eastern Conference side Chicago Fire in exchange for midfielder Matt Watson. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Whitecaps FC have 12 international roster spots through the 2014 season and 10 international roster spots through the 2016 season.

“Matty is a hard working player with great character and a tremendous attitude,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “This move was made in the best interest of both Matty's career and the club. We thank Matty for his dedication to the club over the past two seasons and we wish him the best of luck with Chicago Fire.”

Watson joined Whitecaps FC in December of 2011. In two seasons with the club, the native of Redditch, England, started 28 of his 39 appearances, recording two assists, in all official competitions.
