VANCOUVER, BC – With just over 24 hours until Vancouver Whitecaps FC kick off their 2014 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, the club announced today that fewer than 1,000 tickets remain for Saturday’s season opener against New York Red Bulls. Kickoff at BC Place is set for 4:30 p.m. PT – TV: TSN, RADIO: TEAM 1410, teamradio.ca, MOBILE: bell.ca/mobiletv.

The best way to secure your seat for all 2014 home matches is by purchasing season tickets starting at just $349, subject to applicable fees. Whitecaps FC also offer a flexible range of ticket products, including half-season tickets ($244), 5-packs ($149), student season tickets ($199), and a youth soccer half-season ticket ($100). For more information on all Whitecaps FC ticket options, call 604.669.9283 ext. 2 or visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets.

Whitecaps FC open their fourth season in MLS as the club celebrates 40 years since the inaugural season in 1974. The new campaign kicks off with a bang against defending Supporters Shield winners New York Red Bulls, the top team in the 2013 regular season. The Red Bulls roster includes two of the biggest stars in MLS with long-time Everton midfielder and Australian national team captain Tim Cahill, as well as Arsenal and French national team legend Thierry Henry.

The ‘Caps enter Saturday’s match with several new faces from across the globe. Former Welsh national team captain Carl Robinson takes the reigns as head coach after serving as Whitecaps FC assistant coach the past two seasons. Joining him are a number of exciting talents, including two new Designated Players. Argentine Matias Laba comes on board to bring tenacity to the midfield, while Chilean Pedro Morales brings an attacking flair to the ‘Caps after most recently playing with Malaga in Spain’s top tier La Liga. Adding to the South American show are Uruguayan duo Sebastian Fernandez and Nicolas Mezquida, two highly skilled playmakers. On the backline, 2012 MLS All-Star Steven Beitashour steps in at right back to replace South Korean icon Young-Pyo Lee before an expected call-up to play in this summer’s FIFA World Cup with Iran.

Robinson’s team will take to the pitch sporting the club’s brand new 2014 kit for the first time, which was revealed at an exclusive season ticket holder event at the Commodore Ballroom on Wednesday. To purchase the new kit, visit whitecapsfc.com/shop.

Fans are encouraged to get to BC Place early to take part in ‘Caps Kickoff on Terry Fox Plaza, starting at 3 p.m. PT. Among the activities is the Bell Fan Zone, where you can get your face painted in Whitecaps FC colours or play against your friends in EA SPORTS FIFA 14, as well as meet a ‘Caps player during a special autograph session.
