Bryce Alderson and Caleb Clarke called up to Canadian men's national team camp

VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadian Soccer Association announced on Friday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Caleb Clarke and midfielder Bryce Alderson have been called up to an upcoming Canadian men’s national team training camp, which will take place from May 18 to 27 in Austria. Both players are products of the Whitecaps FC Residency program.


UPDATE (May 20, 2014): Caleb Clarke and Tyler Pasher are injured and will not attend the camp. They have been replaced by Whitecaps FC Residency defender Jackson Farmer and Whitecaps FC Residency graduate Ben Fisk.

Canada will play two friendly matches during the camp, taking on Bulgaria on May 23 at the Sonnenseestadion in Ritzing, and Moldova on May 27 at the Stadion SVU Mauer in Mauer. Both matches will take place at 8:30 p.m. PT with highlights available following each match on CanadaSoccerTV.


Clarke, 20, is currently on a year-long loan with German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg II, where he has scored eight goals in 25 games this season. The Richmond, BC-born player previously made his Whitecaps FC MLS debut on august 15, 2012, coming on as second half substitute against FC Dallas. Clarke also made a substitute appearance against Chivas USA on October 3, 2012. Internationally, Clarke made his senior national team debut on November 15, 2013 in a friendly against Czech Republic. The young striker also has extensive experience with both of Canada’s U-18 and U-20 squads, including two goals at the 2013 CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Championship in Puebla, Mexico.
Alderson, 20, receives his first call-up to Canada’s senior men’s national team. The young midfielder recently made his Whitecaps FC first team debut, starting and playing the full 90 minutes at Toronto FC in the first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship semifinals on May 7. The Kitchener, Ontario native also started the second leg, playing 67 minutes in his home debut at BC Place. Internationally, Alderson has represented Canada at the U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels, captaining his country at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico and twice being named Canadian U-17 Player of the Year. Alderson will not be available for Vancouver’s next MLS match on May 24 against Seattle Sounders FC at BC Place.

Farmer, 19, receives his third call-up to the senior Canadian men's national team after making his debut against Mauritania on Septemer 8, 2013. The young defender was then called up again during a recent camp in January of 2014. More recently, Farmer made his professional debut with Whitecaps FC’s USL PRO affiliate Charleston Battery, starting three of his four appearances before being recalled on May 3, 2014.


Also named to the roster are three additional Whitecaps FC Residency products: defenders Daniel Stanese and Adam Straith, and midfielder Randy Edwini-Bonsu.
