DeMerit diagnosed with tendon tear in left ankle

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that defender Jay DeMerit has been diagnosed with a tendon tear in his left ankle following an MRI in Bristol, Connecticut. DeMerit has opted for non-surgery rehabilitation and will be out for at least six weeks.


The 6-foot-1 centre back suffered the injury during the first half of Vancouver’s most recent match, a 3-3 draw at Philadelphia Union on Saturday, June 7. DeMerit is following an acute care program in Connecticut and will return to Vancouver on Sunday, June 15 to continue his rehabilitation.


So far this season, DeMerit has started 11 of the club’s 13 MLS matches, playing a total of 924 minutes.
