Whitecaps FC U-23 travel across the border for rematch with Puget Sound Gunners FC

PDL huddle 2014

Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23 (3W-3L-3D) travel across the border this Friday for a rematch against Puget Sound Gunners FC (1W-5L-2D) at Issaquah High School. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT.
The ‘Caps will be aiming to earn their fourth consecutive win in United Soccer Leagues (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) action.
WHITECAPS FC U-23
Early season results were not indicative of performances for Whitecaps FC U-23, but June has turned out to be a golden month for the ‘Caps with three consecutive triumphs. Last weekend, the ‘Caps kept their momentum going with a 3-0 win over the Gunners at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam.
This is the first three-game winning streak for the U-23 team in two years, as they last took three in a row in June 2012 when they won consecutive matches against Victoria Highlanders FC, Washington Crossfire, and Fraser Valley Mariners FC.
“We look forward to continuing our run of good performances this Friday,” assistant coach Steve Meadley told whitecapsfc.com. “Results have been favourable lately due to the squad’s hard work and commitment to our playing style. We feel that the work being done on the training ground is starting to show in our performances.”
PUGET SOUND GUNNERS FC
Puget Sound had a demanding schedule north of the border last weekend. Prior to being defeated 3-0 by Whitecaps FC on Sunday, the Gunners were on the wrong end of a 4-1 match in Victoria on Saturday.
With just one victory so far this season, Puget Sound will be desperate for a win at home to stay in contention for qualification to the PDL playoffs.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
With their victory last weekend, Whitecaps FC U-23 now hold an all-time record of 7W-3L-0D against Puget Sound Gunners FC (formerly known as North Sound SeaWolves FC).
COMING UP
Following Friday’s match, Whitecaps FC U-23 are back in action on Sunday, June 29 when they host Sounders FC U-23 at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT.
