Whitecaps FC Kootenay Academy to play West vs. East intra-academy matches

Kootenay Academy

As Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue to grow here in the Lower Mainland, so too does the club throughout British Columbia.

A perfect example of this growth has come in the Kootenays, where the club’s academy program has taken the region by storm. That will be on full display this coming weekend with the first ever local in-house matches between the Kootenay West Prospects (based out of Nelson) and the Kootenay East Prospects (based out of Cranbrook) on Sunday, October 5 at Moir Park in Cranbrook. Matches will be played from U-10 to U-18, both boys and girls. Matches will begin at 10 a.m. PT.

The Whitecaps FC Kootenay Academy is managed by regional head coach Brett Adams, with the East-based prospects coached by Sam Heap.

“By playing games against each other it gives us a chance to look at the Kootenays as a whole,” said Adams. “At some stage we will be attending events as the Kootenay Academy with a mixture of both West and East players. As we expand, we continue to work together as much as possible.”

There are now over 250 prospect players playing in the ‘Caps Kootenay Academy, and Adams only sees good things ahead.

“I really believe that we’re heading in the right direction in this region,” said Adams. “Playing these matches will continue to push the players and add that competitive edge.”
